height of 4421 m above sea level. Yamunotri finds a special mention in the
Hindu mythology. According to a legend, this secluded hilly spot was the home

Yamuna. Unable to go to Gangotri during his old age, a stream of Ganga

Lakhamandal: past Kempty Falls 75 km on the
Mussoorie-Yamunotri road, 17km from Dama at Bornigadh, Lakhmandal is a place
of archeological significance. Temples dedicated to Shiva, Purshuram and five
Pandavas made of shiny granite like material still attract. Historians
identify the place with the epic Laxagriha(house of wax) made by Druyodhana (Kaurav)

Hanumanchatti : In olden times all halting places enroute were called Chattis and some of these still retain their traditional names like Hanumanchatti. It is the place of Confluence of Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna rivers, from the trek to Dodi Tal(3,307 m) starts. The trek from Hanumanchatti starts with a gentle climb and the 7 km trek though Phoolchatti & Jankichatti is most enjoying as the path trails its way through wooded hills & meadows shaded with beautiful green, while the fragrance of the Himalayan trees and shrubs permeate the cool mountain air.

It is known for its very high temperature of 190 F. pilgrims cook rice & potatoes here to offer to deity in the temple. Near Surya Kund there is a slab of stone known as Dibya Shila or the slab of divine light. This slab is worshipped before puja is offered to Yamuna.
Jankichatti (5km): This is the place where all pilgrims have to return from Yamunotri for the night half, the same day. The thermal springs here offer a spectacular sight and a refreshing bath for the pilgrims.
Chamba: On the way to Tehri – Chamba is situated at an altitude of 1676 m. It is an ideal summer retreat. On a clear day one see the impressive Bandarpoonch Peak and the snow on the mountain ranges.
