KAUSANI
Kausani – known as the mini Switzerland of India- is nature’s own
reserves, nestling among thick, dense pine forests atop a narrow ridge and
separated from the towering mountains of the Nanda Devi range by low, medium
mountains at Kausani. It is famous for its breathtaking and astounding view,
over 300 km in length, of the Himalayas. From here one can see the settlements
of the Katyuri valley, the river Gomti and the snow-clad peaks of Panchachuli,
Nanda Kot, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba and Kedarnath. The
glory of the snow crowned Himalayan range reaches its pinnacle when the
sunrays turn them into crimson and gold. The view of the snow covered Trishul
and Nanda Devi is so clear that one gets a feeling of the snows being within
touching distance.
The great Hindi poet Sumitra Nandan Pant was born in Kuasani and the famous
folk singer Gopidas had also lived and worked here.
About 19 km on the bank of the river Gomti below Kausani- is the site of the ancient temple complex of Baijnath.Amongst the statues enshrined at Baijnath the four and a half feet image of Goddess Parvati is unparalleled and speaks highly of the impeccable ,flawless sculpture of the region.
